ÖSTERSUND, SWEDEN – Marsblade, with the revolutionary skate technology FMT, is thrilled to announce the results of Brock University’s comparative study of the Marsblade I2s.
In early 2023, Brock University and George Brown College, Ontario, Canada conducted a study analyzing the performance of Marsblade I2 blade holders with dynamic pitch versus traditional holders with fixed pitch on hockey-specific skating skills. Testing was conducted by Kelly Lockwood, Ph.D., a professor at Brock University and President of the Skating Lab Inc.
The pitch angle is the angle between the player’s foot and the ice. A conventional rigid holder has a fixed pitch angle and the rocking blade holder of the Marsblade I2s provide a dynamic pitch angle, giving the skater a range of pitch angles throughout their strides.
The Brock study concluded that the players used less force to maintain the same velocity in all tested scenarios, when skating on the Marsblade I2s. The Brock study supports the contribution of a dynamic pitch to skating efficiency. See results below and click on the link for a more in depth analysis.
“We are thankful to Dr. Lockwood and her staff for the time and attention to detail while performing the study,” says Per Mårs, Founder of Marsblade. “We are proud that the study confirmed the correlation of dynamic pitch angles of the I2s to skating efficiency. Current player feedback also supports the study results and we are humbled by the increasing number of pro players making the switch to the I2 blade holders.”

In the mid 00’s, the former professional hockey player and founder of Marsblade, Per Mars, got the idea to create a training tool that would improve his training off the ice. The idea, sketched on a napkin, was later developed into the patented Flow Motion Technology. It became the foundation for the Marsblade brand, and the core of the innovative, technologically advanced products. Marsblade is a global brand with offices in Sweden and the United States.
